The Ocmulgee Earth Lodge
A short source on a reconstructed council building with an original floor. This is a very short page, so all of its main text is included. It leaves out the list of visitor amenities.
This page is a simplified version of the original text (leveled toward 800L). Photos, maps, and other images are not on this page — use the original link above to see them.

When visitors go into the Earth Lodge, they get a view of the ancient past. The Earth Lodge is a reconstructed council chamber of the Mississippian culture. Its walls and ceiling were reconstructed in the late 1930s. Crews from the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Works Project Administration did the work. Archeologist A.R. Kelly directed them. The clay floor inside is the original floor built by Native people. Carbon dating puts it at the year 1015.
